Metaverse has been an over sounding hot topic of conversation for a long time now, and when most companies are trying to claim and make some fortune out of it, let us try to grasp the concept of Metaverse and what it actually is.
Although we have seen many virtual reality-based holly wood movies with avatars and 3D buildings and structures, the 1st use of this term can be traced to the 1992 fiction novel “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson. Since then, science has made much progress and a lot percentage of this has already been achieved, including a virtual world of virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D avatars, videos, and many other communication means, but still, there is a long way to go to have an actual Metaverse like in that novel or like in the movie Ready Player One. In games like Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, and World of Warcraft, we have seen the fragments of this reality. Metaverse is much more than that. It is a concept to create a hyper-real parallel world in which we can live.

META of Zuckerberg:

Previously known as Facebook, has made a significant investment in this regard even rebranding itself to ‘Meta’. Based on Virtual headsets Oculus, the digital avatars in this world will be able to communicate for work, entertainment, traveling, and much more. Zuckerberg is determined to make a reality that could replace the internet till 2030 calling it the embodied or immersive internet, and of course, he has already invested approximately $10 billion in it.

Microsoft:

Under the Microsoft platform, plenty of apps are on the way, which are combining virtual and augmented reality. Microsoft has already shown its plans for mixed-reality holograms and digital avatars in Microsoft Teams 2022. Also, Xbox live is already connecting millions of online players around the world.

Roblox:

Founded in 2014, and now valued at more than $45 billion is a source of user-generated games like role-playing and many others where one can build, work and solve scenarios and mysteries.
Many lesser-known platforms are also launching their visions regarding Metaverse. ‘Second Life’ a world-famous fantasy game of 2003, is still working with an alternate reality. An online platform urnowhere provides you the opportunity to host or attend festivals, parties, concerts, reunions, or conferences. Other names are The Windmill Factory, The Sensorium Galaxy, Hyperverse, Decentraland, The Sandbox, Nakamoto, Epic Games, Bloktopia, Metahero, and Staratlas.
