Meat pie is the number one tasty snack in Nigeria and a go-to for any celebration finger food full of flavour. This fantastic recipe is brought to you from P’Skittchen express, and it is one of our favourite recipe and very easy to make.

INGREDIENT

150g Self-raising flour

½ Baking powder

130g Softened butter

2 Eggs beaten

4 spoons Water or milk

salt

1 Onion {diced}

2 teaspoon Vegetable oil

220g Minced beef

Spice {Maggi}

Potatoes

Carrot

First prepare the pie fillers and allow to cool.

  1.  Fry the diced onion in vegetable oil for a few minutes, add a little water to soften then add the mincemeat and mash in the pan with the back of the wooden spoon or fork. Add salt and spice (Maggi cubes} and any other spices you want, e.g. black pepper.
  2. When cooking the meat and onions, only add a little water as it needs to be dry when put on the dough. Add carrot and cook for five more minutes Until the meat is browned and well cooked then set aside to cool.
  3. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  4. Making the Dough
  5. Add baking powder salt to a bowl of self-raising flour and mix, add softened butter and mix till to have a crumbly mixture.
  6.  Add half of the beaten egg to the flour mixture and set with a wooden spoon. Add one teaspoon of water or milk as you kneed the dough mixture.
  7. Lightly flour the worktop and roll out the dough until it is about 2mm thick then Cut out in preferred shapes [circles are preferable} and place 1 or 2 teaspoons of the meat and potato filler.
  8. Fold dough over and seal dough’s edge together with a fork.
  9. Lightly brush top of pies with the rest of the beaten egg. Place on baking parchment or lightly buttered oven tray and place in the oven for 35 minutes or until slightly brown.
  10. Serve hot with a beverage drink.

Tip

Be careful with the amount of water or milk used on the dough to prevent it from becoming too sticky, but if this happens, add a little flour or put it in the fridge to cool.
