Globally, mental health problems are increasing because of demographic changes. Mental health conditions are now causing 1 in 5 years to live with a disability.

During mental illness, unemployment fell in these people, and sometimes people start taking drugs and alcohol that indicate that economic and substance abuse issues were not to blame. On the other hand, younger generations are more likely to seek help for their mental illness.

A concurrent rise in social media could be a likely explanation for this. Moreover, less face-to-face interaction with people can be one reason; those who use social media are usually also likely to be involved in bullying, which can be linked to self-harm, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

There is growing awareness that negative attitudes and dishonours surround mental illness. Some people do not treat the people who have mental illness rightly and talk negatively about them. That is why these people start to hide their mental health issues from others. But this should be stopped.

The awareness regarding mental health issues should be increased in our society. The mental health awareness concept has been developed to encourage human rights for people suffering from mental health illness and reduce dishonour and discrimination. Mental health awareness consists of various factors meant for changing the barriers to gaining positive mental health outcomes in populations.

Advocacy for mental health awareness started when the families of people with mental illness made their voices heard. People with mental illness then added their contributions.

For advocating the awareness of mental health issues, there are many ways to support the person who needs help for his mental problem. People with a mental disorder can go to a local mental health organization. Attending an awareness walk or other event can be benefitting the mental health movement. It can also be done by encouraging the local politician for prioritizing mental health. The most common and meaningful way is correcting those who use stigmatizing language and dishonour the other with mental illness.

The increasing mental health awareness has helped to change society’s perceptions of persons with mental illness. That is why mental health illness awareness is essential and should be increased to better people and culture.
